WHY CAN’T MY DOCTOR GET ME ON DISABILITY?

Chances are your family doctor can’t get you approved for disability or SSI by himself.  Unfortunately, many of the Social Security Administration Adjudicators and certainly most of the Administrative Law Judges do not put a lot of credibility concerning the opinions of a family physician unless the claimant has also treated with “specialists” that define the disability with precision.

What this means is it is often necessary to visit “specialists”, other than your family physician, to have a reasonable chance at getting Social Security Disability benefits awarded, particularly if your condition of ill-being is not totally obvious such as in the case of an amputee, dialysis patient or wheelchair bound individual where there is very little dispute as to the effect of the physical condition as it applies to the ability to be employed.

Another reason it may make it difficult for your doctor to help you get disability is, although the doctor knows the medicine, he usually doesn’t know the Social Security Law.

At Drummond Law, LLC, one of the developments we’ve made in processing our claims is to draft an entire set of proprietary forms that can be used by your doctor and/or filled out by your doctor in order to set forth your disability so it actually matches the requirements of the Social Security Administration’s Laws.  This gives your physician the additional edge of being informed of what the applicable law is concerning your disability.
